‘Good, but could have been better’: Farida Jalal reviews Aryan Khan’s directorial debut

Mumbai, Jan 22: Veteran actor Farida Jalal has shared her thoughts on Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan’s directorial debut web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, saying that while the show was a good watch, there was scope for improvement.

In an interview with Zoom, Farida was asked if she had watched Aryan’s debut project and what her impression was. Welcoming Aryan into the film industry, she said she enjoyed the series but felt the young filmmaker could have done even better.

“Welcome home! Yahin ke toh hai, aur kahan jayenge? (You belong here only, where else would you go?)” Farida remarked warmly, extending her support to Aryan as he steps into showbiz.

Farida shares a special bond with Shah Rukh Khan, having worked with him in iconic films such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Speaking about the superstar, she said she now looks forward to seeing Shah Rukh’s son grow further and tap into his full creative potential.

Aryan Khan made his debut as a director on September 18 last year with the Netflix web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*. The satirical comedy stars Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba and Bobby Deol in lead roles.

A sharp satire on the Hindi film industry, the series explores power struggles within Bollywood and the challenges faced by outsiders trying to stay relevant. The show also features Anya Singh, Mona Singh and Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles.

The series received positive responses from audiences and critics alike and was named IMDb’s Most Popular Indian Series of 2025.

Farida Jalal’s upcoming projects

Farida was last seen in the web film The Great Shamsuddin Family, which also starred Kritika Kamra, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Sheeba Chaddha and Purab Kohli. Written and directed by Anusha Rizvi, the comedy-drama premiered on JioHotstar on December 12, 2025.

She will next appear on the big screen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead. The film, which also features Triptii Dimri, Disha Patani, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vikrant Massey and Avinash Tiwary, is slated for theatrical release on February 13.
