Puttur, Jan 28: The case of a teenage boy who died due to a gunshot at Pade in Ramakunja village on the evening of January 24 continues to remain shrouded in mystery. Meanwhile, the boy’s last rites were performed on the night of January 25 at his mother’s house in Enmakaje, Perla, Kasargod. It is also reported that the boy’s father, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital, has undergone surgery and is recovering.

The deceased has been identified as Moksh (17), son of Vasanth Ameen and Jayashree, residents of Pade in Ramakunja village. Moksh died of a gunshot injury at his residence on the evening of January 24. Initial reports stated that the boy died by shooting himself with a licensed gun belonging to his father after allegedly stabbing him. Police had also shared similar preliminary information at the time.

Senior police officers visited the spot, conducted a mahazar and took up the investigation. A team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials from Mangaluru arrived at the scene around 9 pm on January 24 and continued collecting evidence until around 4 am on January 25. Later, the body was shifted to Deralakatte hospital, where the post-mortem examination was conducted in the evening. The body was subsequently handed over to the relatives.

Meanwhile, Vasanth Ameen (55), who was admitted to A J Hospital in Mangaluru, has undergone surgery. He is currently in the intensive care unit and is reported to be recovering. It is being said in close circles of Vasanth Ameen that pellets and fragments of a gunshot were found inside his body during surgery, though there has been no official confirmation in this regard.

Confusion continues to prevail over the incident, especially after the boy’s mother Jayashree lodged a complaint alleging that her husband Vasanth Ameen had murdered their son Moksh. According to the police’s preliminary report, following a family dispute, Moksh allegedly stabbed his father Vasanth Ameen in the abdomen with a knife and then shot himself in the face using an SBBL gun licensed in his father’s name, dying on the spot.

However, the complaint filed by the mother has raised serious questions about the initial version, adding to the confusion surrounding the case. The truth is expected to emerge only after a thorough police investigation.
