Mumbai, Mar 5: Riding the momentum from the GST 2.0 announcement, India’s auto retail sector achieved record February sales, with total vehicle retails hitting 2.41 million units, a 26% growth compared with February 2025, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (Fada) on Thursday.
Despite February being a shorter month, five out of six vehicle categories — two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and tractors — posted their highest-ever February retail numbers. Construction equipment was the only segment to see a slight decline of 1.22% YoY.

• Two-wheelers grew 25% YoY to 1.7 million units, supported by urban markets (+29%) and rural markets (+22%).
• Three-wheelers rose 24%.
• Passenger vehicles (PV) grew 26% YoY to 394,768 units, with urban markets up 21% and rural markets surging 34%.
• Commercial vehicles (CV) posted a 29% YoY increase to 100,820 units.
“Overall, the strong performance during the month indicates that the policy-led confidence in the market, particularly following GST 2.0, is now translating into sustained demand across multiple vehicle segments,” said C S Vigneshwar, president of Fada.
• Maruti Suzuki led with 154,095 units (+28% YoY)
• Tata Motors sold 56,447 units (+43% YoY)
• Mahindra & Mahindra sold 53,281 units (+25% YoY)
• Hyundai Motor India posted 45,615 units (+16% YoY)
Vigneshwar noted that strong rural growth is supporting small car sales, while SUVs continue to drive overall volumes. PV inventory levels have reduced to 27–29 days, approaching the Fada-recommended 21-day benchmark.
• Hero MotoCorp sold 457,836 units (+18% YoY)
• Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India sold 431,253 units (+31% YoY)
• TVS Motor sold 333,935 units (+31% YoY)
Strong rural liquidity, good crop outcomes, the marriage season, and new product launches helped sustain demand despite minor supply constraints and board exam season effects in some regions.
The CV segment benefitted from improved freight availability, steady e-commerce activity, and infrastructure-linked demand supporting fleet expansion. GST 2.0 also boosted secondary demand and bulk purchases, although some model-specific supply constraints persisted.
The record February figures reflect a healthy mix of urban and rural demand, new product launches, and policy-driven confidence in India’s auto retail sector.
