Mangalore, Mar 6: Linganna (50), who was among those who were taken into custody on the suspicion of being naxal supporters, was admitted to Wenlock Hospital as per the directions of the court. There are allegations that he suffered atrocities at the hands of Anti Naxal Force (ANF) personnel.

Linganna from Alamba in Kutloor villae in Beltangady taluk, who was in police custody after having been arrested by the personnel of ANF, was admitted into Wenlock hospital here. During the recent combing operation, Linganna, along with his sons, Vittal (22), a student of Mangalore University, and Purushottam, had been arrested. Cases of supporting naxal activities were filed against them on Sunday.

Both Linganna and Purushottam had been produced before a judge in Mangalore on Sunday. Linganna, when he was produced before the judge, said he had suffered torture at the hands of ANF personnel. He claimed that his knee was hit with wooden club by the ANF personnel, who asked him to provide information about naxals. Reacting to the plea, the judge had ordered medical examination of Linganna.

During the tests, it was found that knee of Linganna had suffered cracks. He was admitted into Wenlock Hospital for treatment.

On Monday, district superintendent of police, Abhishek Goyal, visited Venoor. Some locals said ANF personnel had fixed innocent people unnecessarily in the case.
