Indian worker killed in Kuwait plant strike; UN peacekeeper dies in Lebanon amid tensions

Kuwait City, Mar 30: An Indian worker was killed after a power and water desalination plant in Kuwait was hit in what authorities described as strikes linked to Iran, the country’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said on Monday.

According to an official statement, a service building at one of Kuwait’s key facilities was targeted on Sunday evening, resulting in the death of the worker and causing significant damage to infrastructure. Emergency and technical teams were immediately deployed to manage the situation and ensure continued operations.

The ministry said contingency plans were activated in coordination with security agencies to stabilise the facility and maintain electricity and water supply. Authorities also urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation, assuring that updates would be shared transparently.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a peacekeeper with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was killed and another critically injured after a projectile struck a UN position near Adchit Al Qusayr in southern Lebanon.

UNIFIL said the origin of the projectile remains unknown and that an investigation has been launched. The organisation expressed condolences to the victim’s family and termed the incident a tragic loss.

Calling for restraint, UNIFIL urged all parties to respect international law and ensure the safety of UN personnel, warning that attacks on peacekeepers could amount to serious violations, including potential war crimes.
