Chennai, Mar 31: The makers of Kathanar, directed by Rojin Thomas, on Tuesday released an impressive trailer that has generated excitement among fans and film enthusiasts.

Running for nearly three minutes, the trailer offers a glimpse into a visually rich world, combining striking imagery, immersive sound design, and a powerful background score. Featuring Jayasurya, Prabhu Deva, and Anushka Shetty in key roles, the film promises a unique blend of horror and fantasy set against an ancient backdrop.

Rojin Thomas, known for his acclaimed film Home, has co-written the screenplay with R. Ramanand. With filming already completed, the team is now focused on post-production, aiming for a worldwide release in 2026 across up to 15 languages.

The trailer has quickly drawn attention from critics and industry insiders, with many praising its scale and visual ambition.
Actor Jayasurya plays the central character—a mysterious sorcerer named Kathanar—while Anushka Shetty portrays Nila. The film had already sparked curiosity when the actor’s intense look was revealed on his birthday last year.

Announced in 2023, Kathanar has stood out for its ambitious use of cutting-edge technology. The makers claim it incorporates advanced virtual production techniques along with workflows such as Tech-Viz, Stunt-Viz, and Post-Viz. The project also employs high-end processes like full-body 3D scanning using multi-camera photogrammetry rigs and motion capture systems.

Drawing inspiration from global productions like The Jungle Book and The Lion King, which pioneered similar technologies, the film aims to bring international-level filmmaking tools into Indian cinema.

With its scale, technology, and star cast, Kathanar is shaping up to be a landmark project, aiming to deliver a cinematic experience that blends storytelling with next-generation visuals.
