Kuwait City, Apr 3: Kuwait said early Friday that its air defence systems were activated in response to missile and drone attacks, with explosions reported in parts of the country.
In a statement posted on X, the Kuwaiti army said the blasts were the result of air defence systems engaging “enemy targets,” urging residents to adhere to official safety instructions. However, authorities did not specify the origin of the attacks or provide further details.
A day earlier, Kuwait’s armed forces had reported intercepting two cruise missiles and 13 hostile drones over its airspace within 24 hours, with no casualties or material damage recorded.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in the region following the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Iran has reportedly launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as neighbouring countries hosting US military assets, including Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations.
The escalating situation has led to widespread concern over regional security, with disruptions reported in global markets and aviation sectors.
