Trump likely to skip Israel Independence Day event amid Iran ceasefire timeline

Daijiworld Media Network - Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Apr 14: reports from Israeli media indicated that Donald Trump is unlikely to travel to Israel for the country’s 78th Independence Day celebrations next week, citing scheduling constraints linked to the ongoing ceasefire arrangement involving Iran.

According to Israeli outlet Ynet, Trump is also expected to miss the Israel Prize ceremony, and there are no plans for him to participate even through a video address. The ceremony had previously been planned to honour him with the prestigious award.

The decision comes months after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Trump would receive the Israel Prize, marking the first time it would be awarded to a non-Israeli recipient. Netanyahu had described the move as a break from tradition, highlighting Trump’s role in strengthening ties with Israel.

However, the award presentation is now expected to be postponed until Trump’s next visit to the country.

Media reports also suggest that several planned event features, including a performance by singer Noa Kirel, have been delayed. There were earlier discussions about participation from Trump’s family members, but those appearances are now uncertain.

While the White House has not issued an official confirmation regarding the visit cancellation, Israeli officials reportedly believe the timing of the Iran ceasefire, expected to run until April 21, makes Trump’s attendance on April 22 highly unlikely.

Separately, Argentine President Javier Milei is expected to attend the Independence Day celebrations, with his visit already scheduled prior to the evolving geopolitical situation.
