Bantwal, Apr 15: The Vittal police have issued a formal clarification regarding a photograph of a bike rider currently circulating on social media in connection with a recent chain snatching incident involving a child.

On April 12, an unidentified individual riding a KTM motorcycle reportedly threatened a seven-year-old child and snatched a gold chain weighing approximately 7 grams at Kodapadavu, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Vittal police station. Following the incident, a case was registered under Crime No. 91/2026, Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

In the wake of the crime, an image of a KTM bike rider began spreading rapidly across social media platforms, with claims identifying him as the perpetrator. Acting on these leads, the Vittal police traced and interrogated the individual seen in the photograph.

No link to crime

Upon detailed investigation and questioning, the police confirmed that the man featured in the viral post has no connection to the chain snatching incident.

The clarification was issued following a request from the rider’s family to prevent any negative public perception or harassment against an innocent individual. The police have urged the public not to share or believe unverified information circulating on social media.

The authorities further stated that the search for the actual accused is ongoing and efforts to apprehend the culprit are in progress.
