Jerusalem, Apr 28: In a recent statement from Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that Israel is actively working to safeguard the rights of Christians across the Middle East. The message, released by the Prime Minister’s Office, featured Netanyahu alongside a group of soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), whom he described as exemplary young men and women demonstrating dedication and courage.
Addressing what he called misleading narratives, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel not only protects Christian communities but also includes Christian soldiers serving in its military. He stated that these forces contribute both to Israel’s defense and to the broader protection of Christian populations in the region.

Highlighting the contributions of Christian citizens, Netanyahu remarked that Israel stands out in the Middle East as a country where Christian communities are growing and prospering, praising their achievements and role in society.
The Prime Minister’s comments come shortly after a controversial incident on April 20, in which an Israeli soldier was seen damaging a statue of Jesus Christ in Lebanon. The act, captured in a widely circulated image, drew sharp criticism.
Reacting to the event, Netanyahu expressed shock and sadness, condemning the act in strong terms. He confirmed that authorities have launched a criminal investigation and assured that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against those responsible.
Earlier, on April 19, the IDF acknowledged the seriousness of the incident, stating that such behavior contradicts the values upheld by its forces. The military’s Northern Command has initiated its own inquiry and pledged to take necessary action based on the findings.
Netanyahu also reiterated Israel’s commitment to principles of religious tolerance and mutual respect, underscoring the country’s adherence to values that promote coexistence among people of different faiths.
