Mumbai, May 9: Customs officials at Mumbai airport seized hydroponic weed worth Rs 17.9 crore and foreign currency valued at Rs 93 lakh in separate operations, officials said.
According to customs authorities, the anti-smuggling drive was carried out at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where officers intercepted passengers and recovered a large quantity of narcotic substances along with undeclared foreign currency.
Officials said the seized contraband included hydroponic weed, a high-grade form of cannabis, estimated to be worth around Rs 17.9 crore in the international market.

In another operation, customs officials also confiscated foreign currency valued at approximately Rs 93 lakh from passengers allegedly attempting to smuggle it out of the country without proper declaration.
Authorities said further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended recipients of the seized narcotics and currency.
The Customs Department has intensified surveillance at major international airports amid rising cases of drug trafficking and illegal currency movement through air routes.
