New Delhi, May 10: World Lupus Day is being observed across the world on Saturday to raise awareness about Lupus, a complex autoimmune condition that affects millions of people globally.
This year’s theme, “Make Lupus Visible”, highlights the need for greater understanding of the disease, whose symptoms often remain unseen, misunderstood and overlooked.
Medical experts said lupus is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues and organs, leading to inflammation and damage in different parts of the body.

The disease can affect joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs and other organs, significantly impacting daily life and long-term health.
Doctors noted that lupus currently has no known cure and patients often face physical, emotional and social challenges due to the unpredictable nature of the disease.
Health organisations across the world are using the occasion to spread awareness about early diagnosis, treatment support and the importance of recognising invisible illnesses.
Experts also stressed the need for improved healthcare access, public awareness and emotional support for people living with lupus.
