FWICE defends stand on Ranveer Singh amid ‘Don 3’ controversy

Mumbai, May 28: The controversy surrounding actor Ranveer Singh’s reported exit from Don 3 has intensified, with the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) strongly defending its decision to issue a Non-Cooperation Directive against the actor.

The latest development came after filmmaker Sanjay Gupta criticised the federation’s move, arguing that such actions ultimately affect hundreds of daily wage workers associated with film productions.

Responding to Gupta’s remarks, FWICE General Secretary Ashok Dubey said the federation had previously supported the filmmaker during difficulties faced on the sets of Mumbai Saga.

Recalling the incident, Dubey claimed actor Jackie Shroff had once refused to continue shooting due to a disagreement over dialogues and that FWICE, along with the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), had stepped in to resolve the matter.

Dubey questioned why objections were not raised against the federation at that time.

Clarifying the organisation’s position, Dubey stated that FWICE had not “banned” Ranveer Singh but had only issued a Non-Cooperation Directive, leaving it to federation members to decide individually whether to work with the actor.

He also warned that such situations could eventually cause financial losses to filmmakers and producers.

The controversy escalated after Sanjay Gupta posted a message on social media criticising the action against Ranveer Singh.

“When an A-list hero shoots, more than 300 workers are employed on set. Ban him and you are depriving workers of their livelihood,” Gupta wrote.

Following FWICE’s directive, Ranveer Singh’s team also issued an official response.

The actor’s spokesperson said Ranveer continues to hold “the highest regard” for the film fraternity and everyone associated with the Don franchise.

The statement added that the actor had consciously maintained silence throughout the controversy, believing professional matters should be handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect.

The spokesperson further stated that Ranveer Singh remains focused on his work and future commitments while wishing continued success to the Don franchise.

Ranveer Singh was last seen in filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar. The actor has not officially announced his next project so far.
