Kundapur, Jun 9: A 35-year-old man lost his life in a tragic road accident after the motorcycle he was riding collided head-on with a goods lorry at the Koteshwar underpass on National Highway 66 on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Poojary (35), a resident of Markodu in Koteshwar. He was working as a mason and was unmarried.

According to reports, a 10-wheel goods lorry travelling from the Udupi side entered the underpass when it allegedly collided head-on with a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in Pradeep's death on the spot.

Kundapur Traffic police sub-inspector Anoop Nayak and his team visited the accident site and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered at the Kundapur Traffic police station.

The fatal accident has once again brought attention to safety concerns at the Koteshwar underpass. Local residents pointed out that the underpass witnesses heavy traffic congestion, particularly during morning and evening peak hours. The movement of heavy vehicles often leads to bottlenecks and traffic jams in the area.

Residents further noted that the passage is particularly challenging for large vehicles, including 10-wheel lorries, which struggle to navigate the narrow underpass. They have urged the authorities to restrict the movement of such heavy vehicles through the underpass and implement stricter traffic management and safety measures to prevent further accidents.
