Mumbai, Jun 19: Actor Karan Kundrra has responded to criticism on social media after revealing that he sought his parents' approval before proposing marriage to longtime girlfriend Tejasswi Prakash.
Speaking during an interview with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, Karan defended his decision, saying involving family members in major life choices should not be viewed negatively.
Questioning the criticism directed at him, the actor said, “If you don't ask your parents or your siblings, then who are you supposed to ask?”
Karan emphasised that consulting parents does not diminish an individual's independence and that family remains an important part of life regardless of age or relationship status.
He expressed disappointment over comments suggesting that he should have made the decision without discussing it with his family.
“Just because someone new comes into your life doesn't mean you forget the place your parents hold,” he said, adding that seeking advice from family members is a natural part of Indian culture.
Taking a swipe at online trolls, Karan remarked that some critics appeared disconnected from traditional family values.
He also clarified that Tejasswi had no objection to his discussing the proposal with his family and noted that most of the criticism came from social media users rather than people personally connected to the couple.
Karan Kundrra and Tejasswi Prakash have been in a relationship since 2021 after meeting on the reality show Bigg Boss 15. Their romance blossomed during the show, earning them a large fan following and the nickname "TejRan".
The couple recently gave fans a glimpse into their relationship through the reality series Desi Bling on Netflix. While the show sparked speculation about possible differences between the two, Karan put breakup rumours to rest by proposing to Tejasswi in the season finale.
In a romantic setting in Dubai, Karan went down on one knee and presented Tejasswi with a diamond ring before asking her to marry him. An emotional Tejasswi accepted the proposal, visibly overwhelmed by the surprise gesture.
The couple has not yet announced a wedding date.
