New Delhi, Jun 19: Acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is set to offer readers an intimate glimpse into his life and career through a forthcoming book titled “Conversations with Anurag Kashyap”, scheduled for release next year.

Published by Penguin Random House India (PRHI) under its Viking imprint, the book is based on a series of candid conversations between Kashyap and veteran film journalist Naman Ramachandran.

According to the publisher, the volume will trace Kashyap’s journey from his early days in the film industry to becoming one of the most influential and unconventional voices in Hindi cinema.

Reacting to the project, Kashyap said he had long resisted the idea of a book on his life, believing biographies should be written after a person’s death.

“I think people’s biographies should be written after they are dead. I’m still alive and still have a lot of potential as a filmmaker. But Naman kept pushing me, asking questions about every phase of my life. It has forced me to revisit memories and experiences I had buried deep in my mind,” he said in a statement.

The book is divided into four sections — ‘Anurag the Writer-Director’, ‘Anurag the Producer’, ‘Anurag the Actor’, and ‘Anurag the Personality’ — and aims to present a comprehensive portrait of the filmmaker behind acclaimed works such as Black Friday, Dev.D, Gangs of Wasseypur, Ugly and Raman Raghav 2.0.

Ramachandran described the project as more than a conventional biography, saying it offers a deeply personal account shaped by years of friendship and trust.

“It is rarer than a profile and more intimate than a biography. It is a portrait of a filmmaker in his own words,” he said.

PRHI said the book will not only explore Kashyap’s creative journey and filmmaking philosophy but also use his experiences to reflect on two decades of India’s social, political and cultural transformation.

Publisher Milee Ashwarya said the book would provide readers with exclusive insights into Kashyap’s struggles, creative process and cinematic vision, adding that the publishing house was proud to bring the filmmaker’s story to readers.
