Jaipur, Jun 22: A fresh health scare has emerged in Rajasthan after eight women developed complications following caesarean deliveries at Paota District Hospital in Jodhpur, adding to recent cases of maternal deaths and kidney-related illnesses reported from Kota and Bikaner.
According to officials, eight pregnant women underwent caesarean sections at the hospital on June 20. Soon after the procedures, several of them experienced health complications, with two patients being shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mathuradas Mathur Hospital.

One of the women reportedly suffered excessive bleeding after surgery, which led to a sharp drop in blood pressure and subsequent kidney-related complications. She was transferred to the ICU late on Saturday night.
Another patient lost consciousness following the operation. Medical examinations revealed damage to both her kidneys and liver, along with urinary complications. She has since been placed on dialysis in the ICU.
Hospital sources said several other women who underwent caesarean sections on the same day are also unwell and are suspected to be suffering from septicemia, a serious bloodstream infection.
One of the critically ill patients is reportedly from rural Jodhpur and developed severe complications shortly after the surgery.
Dr. Kulbir Singh, Principal Medical Officer of Paota District Hospital, said the matter has been referred to the medical college administration for further investigation.
B. S. Jodha said blood samples and culture tests of the affected patients are being conducted and all of them are under close medical supervision.
Meanwhile, another maternal death has been reported at PBM Hospital, where a woman undergoing treatment in the Medicine ICU died on Sunday after suffering kidney failure following childbirth.
The deceased, identified as 26-year-old Sharda, is the second maternal fatality linked to the ongoing health crisis at the hospital, following the earlier death of a woman named Preeti.
Hospital sources said the condition of two other women, Imrati and Kamala, who also developed kidney complications after delivery, is gradually improving.
The series of incidents across Rajasthan has raised serious concerns over patient safety, post-operative care and hospital management practices. Health authorities have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the complications, while affected patients continue to be monitored closely.
