Kundapur, Jul 10: A special lecture on 'Scientific Heritage of India' was organised by the IMJ Institutions.
The keynote speaker, Dr P Subbanna Bhat, a senior educationist who earned his PhD from IIT Kanpur and a researcher in Indian history, philosophy, and scientific heritage, delivered an insightful lecture on the subject.
During his address, Dr Bhat highlighted the historical fact that India is the only civilisation that introduced the numeral system to the world. He explained that ancient Indian mathematicians such as Aryabhata and Bhaskaracharya had solved complex mathematical problems with remarkable precision thousands of years ago.

Illustrating the achievements of ancient Indians in the field of astronomy, he said that long before the emergence of modern science, Indian scholars had attained exceptional expertise in understanding planetary movements, calculating eclipses, and developing accurate systems of timekeeping. He stressed the need to study India's scientific heritage from both scientific and historical perspectives.
The programme was attended by Dr S N Bhat, academic director of IMJ Institutions; Dr Ramakrishna Hegde, principal of MIT Kundapur and director of Brand Building; principals of the constituent colleges; and teaching and non-teaching staff.
The lecture successfully inspired students and faculty members, fostering greater awareness, curiosity, and pride in India's rich scientific heritage.
