Rebel kid Apoorva Mukhija shifts to New York, begins new chapter with MBA

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 19: Content creator Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as ‘Rebel Kid’, has revealed that she has moved to New York to pursue an MBA, while opening up about the impact of repeated online backlash following the India’s Got Latent controversy.

Speaking on the podcast Untriggered By AminJaz, Apoorva said she had become tired of the cycle of being cancelled and subsequently making a comeback. She also spoke about the professional impact of such controversies, saying that a period of backlash can affect brand collaborations and consequently her income.

Apoorva revealed that moving to New York had been a long-standing dream. She said she fell in love with the city's fast-paced lifestyle, architecture, food and the way it had featured in web series she enjoyed.

She said she applied to only one college in New York and was accepted. Confirming her move on Instagram Stories, she wrote that she no longer lives in India.

However, the content creator admitted that the transition has also been emotionally challenging. While she is excited about pursuing her studies, she said she is nervous about leaving behind her friends, career and familiar life in India.

Apoorva will live in a dormitory and return to student life while pursuing an MBA. She said another motivation behind the move was her desire to meet new people and build a social circle beyond the content-creator community.

She also indicated that her approach to content creation could change after moving abroad. Apoorva said she may create content whenever she feels like it and might not remain as consistent with her earlier story-time videos.

Backlash after ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy

Apoorva was part of the panel on Samay Raina's India’s Got Latent when the show came under intense scrutiny in February 2025 following controversial remarks made by Ranveer Allahbadia.
Her interaction with a contestant also attracted criticism on social media. Several complaints and FIRs were filed in connection with the episode and its participants.

Apoorva later revealed that she had received death and rape threats following the controversy.

More recently, she appeared on the reality show Lock Upp, where she entered the programme as an informant for two weeks to shake up the dynamics inside the house.

With her move to New York, Apoorva is now beginning a new chapter focused on higher education, meeting new people and exploring her career and content creation on her own terms.
