Prof Rajendra S Gad appointed Goa University Vice-Chancellor

Panaji, Aug 22: Senior Professor of Electronics at Goa University Prof Rajendra S Gad has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Goa University, succeeding Prof Harilal Menon, whose five-year tenure is set to end this month.

Gad becomes the second full-time academician from within Goa University to occupy the Vice-Chancellor's post after Menon.

Gad is associated with the university's School of Physical and Applied Sciences and has handled several research projects as principal investigator or co-investigator.

His projects have received funding from agencies including the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Department of Science and Technology (DST), University Grants Commission (UGC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

His research work covers areas including electronics and information technology, bidirectional machine translation involving Konkani and other Indian languages, non-invasive glucose monitoring, biometric systems, automated blood pressure monitoring and robotics.

He has also been associated with the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme and various research and fellowship programmes.

Menon was appointed Vice-Chancellor in September 2021 and became the first full-time academic from within Goa University to hold the position.

Before taking charge as Vice-Chancellor, Menon served as Dean of the School of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at Goa University.

As per the eligibility criteria for the Vice-Chancellor's post, applicants were required to be eminent academicians with at least 10 years of teaching experience at the university level or a minimum of 10 years of experience in a recognised research institution or academic body.
