Puttur, Sept 9: A woman has alleged that she was subjected to sexual harassment by an auto driver who allegedly diverted from his route and took her to Kuriya while she was travelling towards Puttur for work on Wednesday morning.
According to the complaint filed by the woman, a resident within the jurisdiction of Puttur Rural police station, she left home in the morning for work and travelled towards Puttur in an auto bearing registration number KA21B2011. The vehicle was driven by Balakrishna, who was known to her.

The woman alleged that while on the way, the driver changed the route and took the auto to Kuriya, where he stopped the vehicle. She further alleged that he then behaved inappropriately with her and subjected her to sexual harassment.
Acting on her complaint, Puttur Rural police station registered a case under Sections 74, 75 and 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), vide Crime No. 117/2026.
Following the complaint, Puttur Rural police took accused Balakrishna into custody near Santyar-Parpunja and brought him to the police station.
Police said the accused is being questioned and that further legal action will be taken after the investigation.
