Jalna, Sep 26: A 26-year-old man was allegedly killed by deliberately ramming a motorcycle into him and later portraying the incident as a road accident in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police said.
The incident took place on July 7 in the Wakdi area of Bhokardan taluk. The deceased has been identified as Shubham Yeduba Wagh, a resident of Wakdi.
Police have registered a murder case against three persons, including Shubham's wife, based on a complaint filed by his father, Yeduba Rajaram Wagh, 54. The accused have been identified as Sopan Sanjay Jadhav and Ravi Mahadu Chinchpure, both residents of Wakdi, and Poonam alias Chhakuli Shubham Wagh, a resident of Ranjangaon in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
According to the complaint, Shubham married Poonam in November 2024. The couple allegedly began facing marital disputes a few months after their marriage. Shubham's family later allegedly learned about Poonam's relationship with Ravi Chinchpure.
Shubham had reportedly approached the family court seeking to resume cohabitation with his wife. The complaint states that Ravi called Shubham on July 4 and allegedly threatened him, asking him to withdraw the case and warning that he would otherwise be killed.
On July 7, at around 8 pm, Shubham was reportedly walking towards his farm on the Bhokardan road to spend the night there. Near the farm of Kailas Chinchpure on the Wakdi-Bhokardan road, Sopan Jadhav allegedly rammed a motorcycle into him.
Family members and villagers rushed to the spot after learning about the incident. Shubham was found seriously injured and unconscious and was taken to the government hospital in Bhokardan, where doctors declared him dead.
The incident initially appeared to be a road accident. However, based on the complaint and subsequent police investigation, it has been alleged that Poonam, Ravi and Sopan conspired to kill Shubham by deliberately hitting him with the motorcycle and then attempted to portray the death as an accident.
Shubham's father had repeatedly raised suspicions that his son had not died in an accident and pursued the matter with authorities seeking an investigation. Following his complaint, police registered a murder case.
The investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Pravin Sonawane of Bhokardan police station.
