People’s Opinions Don’t Define me: Shruti Haasan

Chennai, May 21 (DC): With Tollywood flick Gabbar Singh turning into a blockbuster, Shruti Haasan, daughter of legendary actor Kamal Haasan, gets a taste of her first ever big hit.

In a candid chat with DC, Shruti talks about how she handles rumours, her role in Gabbar Singh, her future films etc.

“I feel great about the success of Gabbar Singh! I am very happy that the audience liked my work and accepted me in the character of a village girl,” the chirpy girl begins. So did she anticipate the success? Pat comes her reply, “I always had a good feeling about GS and I’m just overwhelmed that it’s worked out for everyone in such a positive way.”

Industry sources say now that Shruti has delivered her first major hit, her tag of being a ‘jinxed actress’ can be dropped. What is her take on this?

“I never considered myself jinxed! I always consider myself blessed and lucky to be an artiste. Every film has been a great learning experience for me and irrespective of the BO figures, I am very proud of all my films. People’s opinion of me has never defined who I am as an actor or a person,” she retorts.
“Having said that, I am happy with the unbelievable success of this film! Who doesn’t want a super hit?” Shruti adds.

Was she apprehensive about comparisons with Sonakshi Sinha from the original Dabangg? “Not at all! The approach was totally different! The story and my character Bhagyalakshmi had been modified. The director had a very different take on how he saw the character. Also, Dabangg was Sonakshi’s debut film so there should be no comparison,” she points out.

Since dad Kamal is out of the country on work (Viswaroopam), he hasn’t watched the films as yet but Shruti says he enjoy ed her previous film and is confident that he will like GS as well.

On her Bollywood career taking a back seat, she opines, “I’ve always looked at it as Indian cinema and I like new and challenging opportunities. I like working hard and I’ll be happy to work anywhere in any language. I have offers in all three languages and I will announce them when they are finalised”.

The light-eyed beauty thinks the rumours about her alleged affairs with male co-stars Siddharth and Dhanush are ridiculous.

“I find it silly and don’t pay much attention to them. My life and focus lies between action and cut, and that’s all that matters to me. I’ve had a great time working with Siddharth. We did two interesting films together and shared a great professional equation. I also had a wonderful time working with the talented Dhanush and it was fabulous to see a husband and wife team working together so lovingly on the sets,” says Shruti.

“I still work on my independent music and it’s a great source of peace and joy in my life,” she adds.
