Mangalore, Jun 23: An LPG cylinder exploded due to leakage in a house at Ganeshpura, Suratkal near here on Saturday June 23, leaving two persons of a family injured.

The injured are Sheela (75) and Mallika (23). The incident took place at around 7.30 am, after lighting the lamp for the morning prayer.

Two other members of the family, Karthik and Raghavendra, were not home at the time of the blast as they had been to the temple.

Surprisingly, the HP gas cylinder which exploded was the one kept in reserve for future use.  The other cylinder which was being used was functioning normally.

It is however learnt that there were leakages in the gas cylinder, but it did not come to their notice as they stay in a place where gaseous odour is usual as MRPL plant is close by.

The injured have been admitted to Srinivas Hospital, Suratkal. No major damage to the house has been reported

A case has been registered in Suratkal poilce station.
