Olympics: Mexican President Lauds Divers for Silver Medal


Mexico City, Jul 31 (IANS): Mexican President Felipe Calderon congratulated divers Ivan Garcia and German Sanchez for winning the silver medal in the men's 10-metre platform synchronized diving event at the London Olympics.

Minutes after Sanchez and Garcia won second place Monday, Calderon wrote on Twitter: "congratulations to German Sanchez and Ivan Garcia, silver medal in 10 meter synchronized diving. Good work."

The Mexican duo were placed behind China's Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan who won gold, while the bronze medal went to the US pair David Boudia and Nicholas McCrory, Xinhua reported.

Also congratulating Sanchez and Garcia via Twitter were Calderon's wife, Margarita Zavala, and Mexico City mayor-elect Miguel Angel Mancera, who won the recent July 1 elections.
