Simpson Criticised over Daughter's Bikini Dress

Los Angeles, Sep 13 (IANS): Singer Jessica Simpson has been criticised by British charity Kidscape for dressing her four-month-old daughter Maxwell in a bikini.

Simpson gave birth to Maxwell in May, and recently showed her photograph in a yellow bikini on a show with US TV host Katie Couric.

"It is very disturbing to see a young baby presented to the world wearing a bikini," dailymail.co.uk quoted Kidscape director Claude Knights as saying.

"Celebrity choices carry great influence as can be seen by the manner in which their accessories and manners are copied widely," she said.

She said this can have a negative effect on the growing years of the children.

"It is hoped that parents will understand that baby bikinis are totally inappropriate and that they contribute to the commercialisation of childhood.

"We should not be compromising the sanctity of our children's early years," she added.
