Top Antiguan golfer arrested for credit card fraud

St. John's (Antigua), Feb 22 (IANS/CMC): One of Antigua and Barbuda's leading athletes, golfer Kimesha Anthony, has been arrested in Atlanta for credit card fraud, according to media reports here.

Anthony, who is on a full scholarship at the Columbus State University, was late Wednesday night awaiting bail in the amount of $10,000 after she was picked up by Atlanta police, the Antigua Observer has reported.

Family members living here are said to be working on getting the needed funds to Anthony.

Reports suggest that the top Antiguan golfer was arrested after being caught with a credit card belonging to another student at Columbus State, after reportedly using the card on two separate occasions.

Following investigations, Anthony was taken into custody and arrested.

The player, who was just months away from graduation, is now in jeopardy of losing her full scholarship at the top university while the incident also puts her potential professional career at risk.

She could also face deportation if found guilty of committing the alleged crime and is expected to make a court appearance within the next seven days.

Anthony, in September of last year, rallied from three strokes down to win the Montevallo Intercollegiate Tournament held in Atlanta.

In 2011, she led the sub-region's charge in the women's division of the Caribbean Golf Championships from July 31 to August 7 in Trinidad.
