Vehicle production surges in Brazil


Sao Paulo, May 9 (IANS/EFE): Automobile production in Brazil surged 30.7 percent in April, compared to the same month in 2012, to 340,865 units, an industry association said.

Production now stands at 1.17 million units year-to-date, up 17 percent from the January-April 2012 period, the automotive industry trade association said.

Passenger car and light commercial vehicle production rose 29.4 percent during the January-April period, compared to the first four months of 2012, it said.

Truck production soared 56.5 percent during the period, while bus production surged 42.2 percent.
