Mangalore: DC visits MCC control room, seeks improvements

Mangalore, Jun 4: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), N Prakash, who also happens to be the administrative officer of the city corporation here, visited the control room set up at the city corporation office relating to handling of natural calamities, on Monday June 3.

He asked the concerned to improve the efficiency of the control room by bringing changes in the unit’s functioning. “Documenting of complaints and transferring them to concerned departments should not be the only task of the control room. It should prepare a report on the steps taken to address the complaints. The day-to-day reports on these aspects should be submitted to the city corporation commissioner,” he ordered.

He asked the officials to coordinate their functioning and honestly respond to the problems of the general public. He further said that action against the erring officials will follow if he receives any complaints directly.

Expressing dissatisfaction at the waste management at the city, he warned of conducting surprise spot inspections. He wanted the health officer to function more effectively by cancelling contracts of those who do not properly discharge their duties relating to waste disposal, and replace them with new contractors.

He wanted the city corporation officials to prepare a report on the programmes implemented by them, as the district in-charge minister and health minister will be holding meetings shortly to review sanitation and health scenario in the district.

He also gave a deadline of 48 hours to the officials to make payment of funds to those who have already executed works relating to development programmes of the city corporation. In-charge commissioner, Srikanth Rao, deputy commissioner (development), B S Balakrishna, and other officers were present.
