Mumbai, Jan 26: A sessions court on Tuesday directed Daya Nayak, his wife Komal and alleged aide Rajendra Padte to be present in court on Wednesday for the hearing of their anticipatory bail application.

The prosecution assured Judge SP Mahajan that Nayak would not be arrested till his bail plea came up for hearing at 2.30pm. The trio, fearing arrest in a disproportionate assets case registered by the ACB, moved an anticipatory bail application on Tuesday.

They had moved the Bombay High Court on Monday, which directed them to approach the sessions court. Public prosecutor RV Kini said Nayak feared arrest in the case and was therefore untraceable.

He insisted Nayak, his wife and Padte be present during the hearing of their anticipatory bail plea. Nayak’s lawyers assured the court that all three applicants would appear before the court on Wednesday.

Daya Nayak shot down 84 gangsters and arrested over 300 in his years with the police force. He was a man doing his job, for which he was highly praised, given monetary rewards and many awards. The men he killed were from all factions of the Mumbai mafia, there was no don who didn’t take losses. To destroy the police force, Chhota Shakeel would first destroy the man he hated the most—Daya Nayak.

Nayak’s net worth is now Rs 100 crore. In spite of being super rich he continued to work in a job that paid him a measly Rs 12000 a month and continued to stay in a tiny flat. And with all his extra money he built a school in his home-town.
I don’t know what is more shocking—the daily newspaper’s allegations or readers’ responses. The media have forgotten that the men he shot had rewards to the tune of 5-10 lakhs each.

Considering he shot 84 gangsters, he’s made at least 84 lakhs through reward money alone! This was years ago, and with the right investments, he could have been a millionaire many times over by now. Those currently throwing stones once sang Nayak’s praises. Nayak is, or was, a good cop. He made Mumbai safe again.
