Bangalore, May 4: Violence, arson and riots on April 12 and 13, following the death of Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar, were more than an emotional outburst by the actor’s fans, according to Bangalore City Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday, the Commissioner, however, refused to divulge details of his contention. “This is not the platform to make it public. Everything is in the report submitted to the Chief Minister and I am not authorised to disclose its contents,” he said.

He said around 742 people had been arrested in connection with the violence, of which 306 were in judicial custody. A total of 273 cases have been registered and 103 people have been identified through photographs and video clippings. Of these, 69 are behind the bars.
 

Two persons - Girish and Gowtham - who were caught on camera carrying the body of lynched KSRP constable Manjunath Malladi, have been arrested, Mr Singh said. Mr Singh also showed the clippings of people involved in the criminal activities.

Cheques presented

Mr Y M N Murthy, President, Humour Club, presented cheques worth Rs 10,000 each to policemen who died on duty. Relatives of Traffic Inspector N Arun Kumar, KSRP constable Manjunath Malladi and Sreenivasa Murthy received the cheques.

Auto driver ID

Singh said so far 65,000 auto driver ID cards had been issued and a few thousands were yet to be distributed.
