Mangalore, May 29: Sea erosion is a problem which has never been solved.  Though several houses and fish processing units have been engulfed by the sea in the last couple of decades at Ullal, Kotepura, Beeri and other areas, the authorities have done precious little to provide a permanent solution to the problem.

It is not a new problem or a problem which has emerged all of a sudden out of the blues.  But the concerned persons have always turned a deaf ear to the pleas of hundreds of people who live by the sea side without knowing when their houses and lives will be engulfed by the raging sea.

This year too has not been a different one.  With the onset of monsoon, the sea erosion too has been reported from Ullal and Kotekar areas.  State minister for ports and fisheries B Nagaraj Shetty visited the erosion-affected area and took stock of the situation.  He promised the people that he would direct the concerned departments and officials to undertake some permanent measures to prevent sea erosion in the area.

Assistant commissioner Prabhakar Sharma, MLA N Yogish Bhat, Ullal panchayat chief Dinakar Ullal and others were also present on the occasion.
