Mangalore, Mar 15: Students of P A College near Konaje here boycotted classes and protested on Saturday, March 15, against what they termed as 'high-handedness' of the College management committee and lack of basic facilities in the College.

They burned an effigy of the student welfare officer and demanded that he be expelled.

They said that there is scarcity of water in the College and students in the hostels are facing hardships. "The student welfare officer Abdul Rehman has caused mental agony to the student who questioned about scarcity of water for the last four days. The student has fallen ill due to the mental agony he faced and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

"No action has been taken regarding theft in the hostel. When a student asked for justice, the management  threatened to expel the student from the college. The welfare officer has been insulting the students with lewd remarks," the students alleged.

"Inferior quality food is being supplied in the hostel. When the students complain that there are worms in the food, the official said that worms are good for health and asked us to eat them," the students claimed.

The protestors further said, "The official who supplies food to the hostel has remained indifferent. The students are getting debarred for paltry reasons. The officials complain to the parents about the students that they are drug addicts. The students feel mentally harassed due to the allegations."

The students shouted slogans from morning till the afternoon. An effigy of the welfare officer was set on fire. The students did not opt for compromise when the management committee called them saying that they will be targeted for expulsion.

The college management admitted that there is scarcity of water in the college and water is being supplied to the hostel by tankers. "The students have added other allegations in their protests though the main problem is only of water. There were no complaints of worms in the food. We will take action if there is written complaint.

"We never asked to eat food with worms. The hospitalized student is suffering from giddiness and is in the hospital for that reason. His parents visited the college on Friday. We have spoken to them," said R D'Souza, the management official. He further said that a board meeting will be held to solve the problems.

Finally! Nice to see students step up against the military rule. Fight for the student's committee, you will have a way to approach the top management, bypassing the middle layer of scums.

Dear PA College Students, We are absolutely sharing your concern and wholeheartedly support this cause.. No Wonder privately funded colleges have employees who convey the wrong message to the management. Please advise your parents to give a telephone call to the chairman, give a piece of their mind,, These staff working there are for job security not for your security. Also Submit a memorandum to AICTE and VTU. These conditions are all placed in it beforing granting permission. Also get the help of NSUI and ABVP to initiate action. Remember private college run on the Fees paid by students not by government grants.. So good luck with your fight emotionally with you..

Management should always support the students and not the faculty. Abusing students making them to eat food rich in worms and cockroaches is inhuman. the faculty who does this to these students does same to his own children?

Regarding the food problem, why not complain to the food safety officer, near Railway station. he is the authority for the Mangalore Taluk.
Secondly, students should convince their parents about these problems and as responsible parents, they can proceed legally against such institutions, with RGUHS and the appropriate forum.
Such institutions are money making enterprises wherein, neither the staff, nor the students are treated fairly. the best they know is marketing their institution and selling their seats with fake promise. Future engineering aspirants beware

As a former student, it looks like nothing has changed there. The water, the food, the management and their cost cutting measures and most importantly the way students are treated. After all, this is not the 1st protest.

Tanker water is the worst source of supply as one never knows from where the "greedy" contractors source the supply from, and it can be used only for washing etc.!!

When building such a big professional college (it's a pretty new one) how come they did not make sure adequate water supply before going ahead with the project is an important question to be answered by the management?

Forcing young students to eat substandard food is also a pitiable act!!

The college authorities throwing a bind eye and showing cold attitude towards the students' problems is indeed deplorable. The hostel in facility in colleges are really in such a horrible state worst than a an animal staying place. The Food is so horrible that it is difficult gulp inside.
What does the management think? Do they think that students as discarded creatures that they can serve anything! Will sanity dawn on them!
It is necessary that there should be a student committee to monitor the problems of the students.
Worms finding in food in hostels is a common feature which reflects a disgusting note.
It is justifiable that the Student Welfare Officer be dismissed from the job immediately. If the college wants to save its face, it has to do at any cost. And students should not give their struggle until justice is sought.

Water supply by tankers is a big "kickback" business in most of the cases in summer when water is supplied to apartments, hostels etc.

Funda is simple. Tanker comes x times..billed fully for x times. But, it comes only half full. Part of the bill indirectly goes to society manager etc.

Watch out in your apartments..It is a brisk business in summer...

    Mr For Justice, Abu Dhabi
if you don’t know anything about the truth keep shut instead of commenting any stupid words. I am a student of PA college. I know very well what is the truth of the college. Their name sac Muslim college, there is no help for Muslims,, live about that there is no proper facility for students in the college campus,, they did very nice campus just to expose people those who enter first, but inner part only who can understand those who suffered and survived in the college days. So better keep quiet

WORMS IN THE FOOD?Question for students...Why did report to MCC food environmental health department?Alternatively, why did not taken food sample for lab tests?Hospital Admitted student can be assessed for foodborne illness or not.Water scarcity or indifferent behavior of student welfare might be the cause. But most of
students are in the road which speaks the seriousness of the issue.

Food safety & environmental health department of MCC has the sole authority to check the food safety and sanitation of public eateries including hostels of any institution.FYI, they did check hostel food and even sealed the mess in the past.If somebody(hostel)complains to them, certainly they will inspect the facility and collect samples.food.I think there should be food sample to be kept in the refrigerator for about 48 hours in case of foodborne illness surfaces in the eateries?
