Mangalore, Mar 19:
Deputy superintendent of Lokayukta police Umesh G Shet raided the public works department (PWD) in the city on Wednesday March 19 and verified documents related to the construction of the Bangalore-Jalsur state highway 85 that passes through Sullia taluk.

The road construction project was undertaken by contractors of Sharif Construction, Mangalore. The tender was accepted by Sharif Construction on October 5, 2012, and the work started on November 15, 2012.

The work involved widening the road upto 5.5 meters for about 33.28 km and also construction of roads in some parts. However, sources said that till now the roads have not been constructed and there has been no widening. The estimated amount for the construction was Rs 22.05 crore. Almost half of this amount has been used but the roads are still as before, it is learnt.

Umesh Shet said that many contractors are involved in this scam and he has filed a case against them. The documents will be submitted to the court and strict action taken against those involved, he said.

Project management consultant supervisor Ratnakar, Tammayya Gowda, assistant engineer from Mangalore PWD, and Gopal Nayak, executive engineer, Mangalore, are allegedly involved in the scam and a case has been filed against them and investigation is on.

The upcoming elections are leading to a rush in haphazard construction of roads. Occasionally, evidence crawls up in the form of the asphalt cracks.

Verification of the documents was held in executive engineer Gopal Nayak's office at the PWD.

Good work from Mangalore Lokayukta by raiding at PWD who are exposed in scam in highway work. The present roads are bad because of corrupt PWD and their nexus with the contractors for money. We request the Lokayukta to expose this type of cases more so that people can also become alert.

no wonder. as if nobody was aware that such a scam is involved in these projects. everybody knows it. The only thing is , once a while these officers feel like get in to there enquiries, on topic for few days and everything gets cooled off. If you really want to make it, drill each and every project. Especially our coastal road projects which are running for decades, with sucha poor quality of work. I feel pity seeing all these new bridges, fly overs came up at Kottara , Surathkal and all. What a bad finishing, jumping of the vehicles while driving above fly overs, side walls looks so stupid like patch works. no reflectors, no indicators... nobody is bothered except the common people like us. officials, corporation authorities... nobody is bothered. How the deals are paid when the qulaity works are not delivered, not completed in times... everything looks fair in India. Pity on us to be ruled by these leaders ( so called ).

Lokayukta should immediately investigate Shiradi Ghat road construction work , in connection with expenses involved for filling up potholes, to concretise the road & the excess amount released by National Highway Authorities, by State Government & the amount approved by Asian Development Bank. We would like to know the Shoddy work done by the corrupt contractors there for the large amount spent for the project this year.

Put them behind bars without bail for 15 years, so that other contractors will learn a lesson!! Do not let them off the hook!

Surely the Contractor must be having some powerful Political God-father, otherwise he would not have dared to take more than Rs.10 crores from the Govt and did not do the work of even ONE Rupee since last 15 months.
AAP is the only solution for stopping such brazen Corruption.

Sullia taluk by far has the worst roads amongst all the talukas of DK. The KMC construction guys have made a mess of the Sampaje-Mani construction. Very poor ution. Subrahmanya- Elimale - Aranthodu road also messed up by the construction vehicles of KMC. Furthermore, sullia - subrahmanya road is such a state that a bus and car in the opposite direction cannot pass and the bus guys will bully the cars to leave the road. The edge of the road and the shoulder is at such height difference that the car will always scrape the bottom! The only thing that can be done is curse the responsible people, hope that the car is not damaged and continue driving!

All this illgotten wealth must have been used to build a big house and then buy high end cars and also gold. These are the 3 assets we pride upon. 22 1/2 crores for no work mind blowing. It says that we are paid for work done but here no work is done and the tax money is looted. That is why 95% of Indians don't want to pay any kind of taxes on account of white collar loot or day light robbery.
