Mangalore, Jun 3: “In an era of the internet, this mobile bazaar will be useful to the present generation and will help them reach the city as well as the rural people. This will create awareness about the Konkani language," said Vishwas Rebimbus after flagging-off the ‘Mobile Konkani Bazaar’ organized by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at Kadri Park on Tuesday June 3.

On this occasion, Janaki Brahmavar, president of Tulu Sahitya Academy, released the book ‘Asthamana’ written by K Sharadha Bhat. Mohammed Hanif, president, Beary Sahitya Academy, released the book ‘Pushpamal’ written by Dr Varija Neerabail.

Speaking on the occasion, Brahmavar said, “Presidents of all the three academies are gathered here and it is a language harmony meet.” She also spoke about the power of Bhat's writing skills.

Mohammed Hanif, speaking on the occasion said, "Dr Varija Neerabail is from the backward Kudubi community. She is completely involved in her writing. I congratulate her on her achievement.”

On this occasion, Jonisha Lobo and Daphne D'Souza were honoured for securing good marks in Konkani language.

Roy Castelino, president of Konkani Sahitya Academy, said, "When books are available in the library, people may not go to buy it. When the Mobile Bazaar reaches their doorsteps, people may purchase the books they need. This creates awareness among the people. When books are freely distributed, people may not realize the worth of the book but when they spend money on the books, they will want to read it. Students who secure good marks should be an inspiration to other students and you should also motivate them to read Konkani.”

Sandeep Monteiro, supervisor, Mobile Konkani Bazaar, and van driver Jerome were honored on the occasion.

well done Mr. Roy Castelino. Congratulations to you and to your Team-mates. Really we writers those who want publish our books are delighted to know about this Mobile Bazaar (sale of konkanni books). So far we were finding it difficult to market our books. Selling books to public was our main problem. So you have taken proper step to have this bazaar to promote konkanni by way of selling konkanni books going to door to door thus giving scope to reach our books to number of people. Another aspect is that you too have taken another bold step to publish our konkanni books which needs to be appreciated.Let Konkanni Sahithya Academy introduce many such schemes under your leadership. Wish you all the best.

Congratulations Mr Roy Castelino and the members of Konkani Sahitya Academy this is an excellent move to reach the book to the readers. Being a writer and publisher of Konkani books, I am very much aware of the marketing difficulties. Our people away from Mangalore City are ready to buy books, but they are hardly available out of the city. The mobile Konkani bazar will take the books to the readers. This is an excellent move by Roy Castelino, who has felt the pulse of Konkani people.
All the best in your efforts to uplift the language. Academies need leaders with vision and dedication, and Roy Castelino has these qualities.
