Bundesliga side Hamburg sacks coach Mirko Slomka

Berlin, Sep 17 (IANS): Hamburg and coach Mirko Slomka have parted company with immediate effect, the German football club announced.

After a poor start into the season, dropping to the last place of the Bundesliga standings with only one point out of three games, Hamburg decided to sack Slomka after only seven months, reports Xinhua. Slomka, who helped to avoid the club' s first ever relegation last season, was the eighth coach in six years at Hamburg.

The dismissal of the 47-year-old coach leaked already Monday night as spokesman Joern Wolf confirmed the rumors. However, there was no official statement about Slomka dismissal.

Instead Hamburg convened a press conference Tuesday afternoon to appoint the new coach Josef Zinnbauer, who was the coach of Under-23 side.

"Zinnbauer has all basic requirements to inspire this team. We think he is absolutely capable of doing it and we support him," Hamburg's sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer said. The new Hamburg coach will see Bayern Munich at the fourth round of German Bundesliga.
