Hungary football coach fired

Budapest, Sep 18 (IANS): Hungarian national football team head coach Attila Pinter was fired Thursday.

Pinter's spot will be filled temporarily by Pal Dardai, Hungary football federation president Sandor Csanyi said adding that the 38-year-old will coach the team in three European championship qualifiers -- against Romania Oct 11, Faroe Islands Oct 14 and Finland Nov 14, reports Xinhua.

Dardai played for Hertha BSC in Germany from 1997 to 2011 and won 61 caps for Hungary between 1998 and 2010.

Pinter was appointed head coach last December and managed the team in five matches with a record of two victories, a draw and two defeats. But Hungary suffered a 1-2 loss to Northern Ireland in the first round of the European championship qualifiers Sep 7.

Hungary dropped from 34th to 54th place in the latest FIFA rankings.
