Kundapur, Nov 26: Following nationwide calls by the Communist Party (M) for protests, the party led a protest alongwith with Karnataka region Farm Labourers’ Union, in front of Kundapur Taluk panchayat demanding maintenance under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee project.

They demanded immediate release of funds under the scheme and proper implementation of the project. They also demanded that the state government pay the minimum wages as per the orders of the Supreme Court. They said that the attempt of the union government to restrict the project to only 2,500 blocks in the country is condemnable. The protestors said that the project should not be paused and the government should implement the
promises made by it.

K Shanker, CPI(M) district secretary, speaking on the occasion, said that the changes meant by PM Modi are only in words and that he is not trying to bring about good days.

CPI(M) taluk secretar Mahabala Vaderahobali, H Narasimha, Venkatesh Koni, Rajiv Padukone, Nagaratna Nada, Yashoda Hoyyana, Kamala Basrur, and Kariya Devadiga were present.
