Mangaluru, Feb 21: In yet another remarkable gesture, health minister U T Khadar on Sunday February 22 came to the rescue of an elderly accident victim near Lady Goschen hospital here.

It was a hit-and-run accident which took place in front of the hospital. An auto rickshaw driver rammed his vehicle into a pedestrian when the latter was trying to cross the road, and sped away without stopping.

The victim, aged about 70 years, and whose identity is not known, fell on the road and sustained injuries on his face.

Sadly, though a large crowd gathered, no one came forward to help the victim for several minutes. Daijiworld's reporter and another mediaperson who were covering a press meet nearby then went to his rescue.

Meanwhile, a tender coconut seller informed U T Khadar who had just finished the press meet, about the incident. He quickly got into action and instructed his driver to rush the victim to hospital in his car.

With the help of the media persons, the victim was placed in the car and taken to Wenlock hospital.

This was not the first time Khadar had helped accident victims. In July 2014, he had helped accident victims near Mekhri circle in Bengaluru while on his way to Iftar party, and at Yelahanka in another incident. In these and other such cases, he used his car to rush the victims to hospitals.
