Wozniacki still eyes Grand Slam success

Doha, Feb 24 (IANS): For former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki, winning a Grand Slam remains a priority for she has reached the finals of a Major twice but never won.

The 24-year-old tennis professional, who has earned a first round bye at the WTA Qatar Open, reached the final of the US Open in 2009 and 2014 but that’s as far as she could get. She lost to Belgian Kim Clijsters in 2009 and finished second to American ace Serena Williams last year.

However, she is still positive about her chances despite being hindered by injuries and poor form. The current No.5 could not go past Round 2 in the season opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open.

“I'm seven matches from that. So it would be nice to win several matches in a row. That's how far I am from it, just as far as everyone is. We're all on equal grounds whenever we go into one, we all try to win it," Wozniacki said reflecting on the tournament ahead to be held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex here.

But for now Wozniacki is focussed on getting her form right, putting her knee problem on the back of her mind.

“That's the problem that I've had for a while so it's not really that big a deal. I'm just going to probably tape it up for protection and make sure it's stable,” said the Dane.
