Udupi: Pamboor abduction case - Details unfold as accused held in AP

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Feb 26: The Shirva police have finally succeeded in finding the other missing girl from Dharmashree Colony and also her abductor, Raghavendra alias Raghu from Adoni in Andhra Pradesh. Two girls, Kallamma (15) and Shailini (15), who are neigbours living in Dharmashree Colony in Pamboor within Shirva police station limits in the taluk, had gone missing last Tuesday.

The police have booked Raghavendra alias Raghu under different sections relating to kidnapping of minors, sexual harassment, and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The accused was produced in the court here, it is gathered.

The two girls had gone missing on February 17 evening, and the family members of both the girls had complained to the police that a labourer from Varthur named Raghavendra alias Raghu (21), who was living in this colony, was behind this abduction. Kallamma had returned on February 23 morning alone, and informed that she came back from Mysuru after being abducted by Raghu. The police continued to search for Shailini and Raghavendra.

It is now gathered that the two girls and Raghavendra had left together, and had come to Katapadi. They walked till Kaup from Katapadi as they did not have enough money, and spent the night in front of a shop there. The next day, they walked to Mangaluru. Raghu then sold his cell phone for Rs 350, and bought tickets for the three to Bengaluru by train.

When he reached the house of his grandmother in Tirumalasettihalli near Whitefield, the old lady hesitated to accommodate him. She allowed them to stay with her for a day, before handing over Rs 1,000 to Raghavendra with instruction to send the girls back to their homes. Raghavendra sent Kallamma by bus and went to a relative's home in Ballari with Shailini. The police, who got the scent of this, called this relative over phone. Through this relative, the police got information that Raghavendra was at Adoni at the time. The police team went there and took both into custody.

Raghavendra, who had deserted his parents several years back, was residing in a rented accommodation in a house owned by Nagaraj in Pamboor Dharmashree Colony. He got to know Shailini there and both loved each other. When Raghavendra planned to leave with Shailini, Kallamma also opted to accompany them, it is said. On the day he left home with two girls, Raghu had only Rs 45 with him, he has confessed to the police.

No offence is meant. Eden Gardens is a cricket ground in Kolkata, India. If you meant OT Biblical Garden of Eden, or 'Dilmun' associated with ancient Sumer, check the Epic of Gilgamesh, King of Uruk, a Sumerian city-state, ca. 2600 B.C. and read the 'flood story' therein. Forget reaching both referred above, Raghu did not have enough money even to travel beyond Katapady! A few years back, lot of granite querying was going on around Pajaka Kshthra, birthplace of Sage Madhwacharya, and Kunjaru-giri (west of Pamboor aka Shantipura) and employed outside labour and hence the name of one female is somewhat different from local names. Surprising he did not encounter our ‘moral police’!

@ Lydia lobo , kadri . Age of consent and Age of marriage both are different. A girl has early marriage does not mean she has to be mother right away , it can wait. There is something beyond physical intimacy in a marriage and that is to grow emotionally together , have compatibility with each other . Stray relationships like pre marital intimacy is increasing alarmingly so as abortion rates , so its always better to put a girl under the Holy Grail of Matrimony once she hits puberty. This is safe for her parents , education can continue and they can have family at the appropriate time.

Second point , best eggs comes in the early stages of girls life , so its the late pregnancy which is at risk not the early years. Infant mortality also depends upon better sanitation , health care , emergency aid , food .

    Mr. Braganza,

An Indian traditional family expects a child soon after marriage - if no results come by then, elders begin to question. The Government failed to instill contents of your lecture i.e. compatibility and understanding each other into their feather brains. Hence the age limitation for marriage.

Of-course its different in modern couples who opt to wait until a certain age to marry and thereafter to have children.

As for your early eggs' argument, women in their fifties delivered healthy babies at the same time a genetically weak women bore stillborn babies in their twenties. You can't generalize a woman's health condition as per adages.

@Lydia Lobo , Kadri. At last some sensible comments from you. Its likely they already got married secretly or if they do it even now its valid once girls consents in court ( PC MA only prohibites it but rendered valid ) , though education can continue. The magic figure 18 is illogical now a days since youths are getting matured very early and open about relationships. Let's do not make mess of this and boy should not be punished for the crime he has not committed. Let's wish this young couple bright future.

    Mr. Braganza,

Trying to explain you why I insist on a marriage after 18 for girls is a waste of time. If you guarantee that they will refrain from starting a family before her age of 20, I have no disagreement of any sort.

You have always been looking at it in a sex urge/need of a man but I insisted that an underage mother tends to be anemic at pregnancy and produces malnutrition-ed children which gives raise to high rate of infant mortality.

    Nancy, very true.

A man and two women walked from Pamboor to Mangalore with an overnight stay at a bus stop, no any group noticed them ? Otherwise, there is no possibility to exchange one word between male and female of a different community ? Or, two members of opposite genders travelling on a bike made to exchange garlands (or rakhi) despite their pleading that they are blood relatives ?

I am sure such group members are gone into deep hibernation and are brought out on certain occasions only ! Or, are given a Modi-dose to refrain from communal clashes.

If his version of events is true, this man does not appear to be harmful, he sold his belongings to arrange their travel. The girls seem to be adventurous, their allegation of abduction is baseless.

It should be appreciated that the man tries to settle down with whatever meager earnings he has but the girl is minor hence he must wait till she attains marriageable age.

Please help him with a good job, this is how our society come up - bit by bit. Let the girls continue their education without being subjected to unnecessary harassment nor attention, we need man and woman both be working to meet today's expenses.
