Ponnappa-Ivanov knocked out of German Open


Mulheim an der Ruhr (Germany), Feb 26 (IANS): Indian badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa, partnering Russian Vladimir Ivanov, was knocked out of the mixed doubles pre quarter-finals at the $120,000 German Open Grand Prix Gold here Thursday.

The Indo-Russian pair lost to English third seeds Chris and Gabrielle Adcock 19-21, 15-21 in 37 minutes at the RWE-Sporthalle.

The English pair will take on unseeded South Koreans Gi Jung Kim and Shin Seung Chan in the quarters.

Ashwini will return to action later in the evening with women's doubles partner Jwala Gutta while men's singles defending champion Arvind Bhat will also play his pre quarter-final later in the day.
