Kasargod, Feb 26: Kasargod police have arrested two persons for illegally transporting gold weighing 1.25 kg in a bus.

The arrested are identified as Koliadka resident Abdul Kunhi (22) and Melbaramba resident Mohammed Rafiq (28).

The duo had arrived at Bengaluru airport from Sharjah with the gold. They hoodwinked the customs officials and after going to Sullia, were proceeding in a KSRTC bus to Kasargod.

The police on a tip-off found the accused with the gold. The gold was hidden in four suitcases in the form of sheets inside their covers. The value of seized gold is said to be Rs 35 lacs. It is alleged that they had transported gold in the past also.

The fact that such the gold went undetected at the airport has given rise to suspicions.
