Very sad and sorry to hear about this accident. This was a shocking incident happened after the one happened in hebbal bangalore. All accidents in broad daylight. Commuters be careful while driving, crossing and moving around in the city. I don't understand why do the traffic police keep quiet when ppl drive rashly on road especially the tankers and buses. Bikers kindly drive slow please drive slow as it is dangerous for us as well as for ppl around you. May their soul rest in peace. Very upsetting indeed.

The tragic loss of life at Nanthoor ,Mangalore and just yesterday at Bangalore speaks volumes of road rules and value of human life. With no traffic rules, easy escape routes, blame game, travelling on Indian roads is a nightmare.Add to it u have young educated parents displaying their tiny tots standing on seats of two wheelers and the proud look of the mother,is really disgusting. From a very young age we teach our children to disobey and when tragedy strikes blame everyone asunder. It is time to deal with an iron hand to avoid such avoidable tragedies as many who are dying are young and had a dream to fulfill.May their souls RIP.

I would suggest introducing speed bumps on the highway next to Padua High School till the Nantoor circle. Since Vehicles coming from that way are always at a high uncontrollable speed. Speed bumps will help in reducing the speed till the Nantoor circle for a safer and organised traffic.

I appreciate the sentiments people have towards these ghastly/tragic incidents.it is better to get down to the business.make the cops/RTO people pay for their failure in inspecting the road worthiness. of all vehicles. Since they are accountable for the above accident all people should go over to the RTO and torch the building by not allowing any two legged rats to escape.burn them alive so that lives of citizens of this great city are spared from future mishaps

We have the worst, corrupt, redundant RTO rule.

Before the vehicle moves, it is the duty of the driver to check, whether the brake is in tact. If not, the driver should stop vehicle. Here the driver has played on someone's life. Has his own children has died, what would have been, the drivers feeling.

I will blame not only the driver, but also the corrupt RTO system.

This is a result of unscientific construction of a huge circle at Nanthoor junction. A flyover is a must at that particular junction. It is so unsafe to send the school going children at the peak hours by walk at this particular place. The erratic and careless attitude of the truck driver has resulted in orphaning a whole family. Wake up the concerned department to take necessary action immediately. Tomorrow it may happen to you or one of us.

Yet another freak accident due to utter negligence of the truck driver. Claims three innocent lives & leaves behind 03 more serious. Yet truck driver has fled the spot.!!
Unless R.T.O. takes stringent action on these erring drivers nothing much will help.
Also MCC & other authorities, are we waiting for something major to happen, to install signal lights at Nanthur Junction, which is the need of the hour.!
Let us not start blame game, but let us also raise voice against lethargic approach of our authorities towards our basic necessaries in life. We also should be more rules abiding and responsible citizens rather than complaining all the time.

Such a terrible tragedy. The problem is that the offenders get away easily.Look at the way bus drivers drive and cause block near pumpwell-yekkur. They have absolutely no regard for others.and nobody seems to question them either.I saw the cops checking 2 wheelers (Harmlesss) for licence at Nanthoor an hour before the accident! Is checking for licences more important than managing traffic at a buisy circle? I wonder why only 2 wheelers are stopped often, and not 4 wheelers or heavy vehicles. due to logistic reasons?

Citing brake failure is a standard reason by most HD drivers after getting involved in serious accidents!!

Another spine chilling fallout of such critical accidents is the fate of those critically injured who could be maimed or paralyzed for life with no monetary/medical support from any govt. agency!!!
Infrastructure wise Mangluru is one of the worst cities, in most places there are absolutely no footpaths for the pedestrians, unscientific speed breakers, huge road dividers which children and elderly cannot cross, reckless driving, horn honking, road bullying, wrong sided approaches, and you name the violation and can all be seen here with no fear of the authorities!! I agree Mr. Rao. But as I see it our city R.T.O is really trying it's best to put systems in place ( Indian Bureaucracy is to be blamed for the pace it's working in) the vehicle maintenance is the responsibility of the Owner not the R.T.O. every person who has commented here has criticized the R.T.O. I think they are not to be blamed where it comes to Vehicle maintenance. But yes, when it comes to inspection at the R.T.O a stringent mechanism to check this must be put. (agents' commissions etc are paid nevertheless) So why not put up a much more efficient Mechanism.

Actually, It's The State and National Authorities also to be blamed for cutting corners and not stressing for a FLYOVER at this fatal junction (pumpwell is a bigger junction for which Flyover according to me is a stupid idea). They know that there are TWO MAJOR HIGHWAYS conjoining here (nanthoor). There should have been a proper plan along with the M.C.C. Also all the other Flyovers (around Mangalore) are made for one way Traffic ( for highway use) proper usage for highway pliers(two way traffic I mean)
and proper exit roads for the Local public isn't in place. For this Who is to be blamed. I say so me myself and all of us Mangaloreans for not doing our bit to question the said authorities and then someone else who take the decisions so on and so forth.

All of us here I believe are talking on behalf of all Mangaloreans and on behalf of the interest of our City and it's Safety.

I deeply convey my condolences to the bereaved families of this unfortunate incident.

Theory of break failure is a knee -jerk reaction to defend. Movement of tippers within city limits shall be restricted during peak hours. Majority of JCBs/Tippers and Heavy vehicles are run by migrant workers whose whereabouts are not easily traceable. Compounding to this, city is witnessing heavy use of mobiles while driving and criminal negligence on the part of law enforcement authorities towards this public hazard. We often open eyes and debate in public domain when precious lives are lost. The driver ran away from an accident site at a major busy junction of the city appears to be stranger than fiction! Differential speed limits for light and heavy motor vehicles within city limits shall be enforced with no exception even to pretending-to be-busy politicians. The authorities are in deep slumber? When they will wake-up?

The way these heavy vehicle drivers drive the vehicle brings shivering in spine seeing yesterday's Hebbal accident clearly shows how much neggligent these drivers are.
The government should take stringent action on these people. Their DL .UST be cancelled, in case of death minimum punishment is life Imprisonment. And penalty must be imposed on them that the victims medical future expense s must be borne by the driver. If only such punishment is imposed accident might be reduced

Time to think of constructing a bypass road outside the city to link the industrial zone (surathkal/panambur) to bangalore.
The chaos at nanthoor junction will never be solved even if you have two flyovers and a underpass. See the chaos at surathkal or kottar flyovers and you will see.
A highway is supposed to be a speedway. See the 80km limit boards even at nanthoor or along this road that passes through residential/hospital and school zones. This means that vehicles can speed upto 80km Isnt it?. It is not the fault of the truckers. It is the fault of those politicians with no long term vision who have allowed a peaceful road to be converted to a so called port connectivity road that allows heavy vehicles with hazardous cargo to cut through the city through a densely populated neighbourhood that has several schools and colleges. All the people who live /study/work or pass by are at great risk not only to accidents but also to the heavy dust/chemical/noise pollution.
A bypass road is the only low cost solution that is if you consider human lives valuable

RTO should check the brake's, the lights and the condition of the the Vehicle before passing the car and then RTO should provide the driver a badge which should stick on the front glass. Every year the RTO should change the color of the badge so the police officer knows that the Vehicle is been checked by the RTO.

On 18th December 2014,during the Road Safety meeting,I have given a Letter to DC Mr Ibrahim,ACP Udaya Kumar. In that letter I have requested all concerned parties to be active on reducing the Speed limit from 80 KMPH to 30 KMPH. Law says, the speed limit should be 30 KMPH near School Zone. Near Padua High School, the board reads 80 KMPH. Each one blames the other.
Almost every one you have seen 20 to 25 trucks were parked near Cochin Bakery and GR Building. These trucks were from out of states such from Haryana to Tamilnadu. These drunk Drivers had no Bathrooms nor toilets but they were using the Common area. All our Minister including Health Minister Khader was traveling to Circuit House from Ullal. None bothered to eliminate the problem. Drugs were brought here from out of states(RJ,HR,MP,DL,GJ etc) to supply here. Prostitutes were supplied to Drivers by Guys on Bikes. Padua School girls were walking next to trucks after dark finishing their classes. Padua School Authorities did not care. If one Child goes next will be entering the school. CODP did not care either, money is the matter.
With faith on God, I took the challenge to remove every truck to save a Innocent Child from Jaws of Death. Immediately I have installed two "NO PARK" boards at my cost. DC Mr.Ibrahim,SI Suresh Kumar from Kadri East Police and Environmentalist Madhu Manohar from MCC helped me in this work. Thanks to all of them. May God Bless them. Now area looks clean and Safe. Let the Children be safe. They are someones Child.
Next accident will be of Petrol or LPG laden Tanker inside Nanthoor Junction. I have already given in writing to Authorities.

When one talks about a brake failure in motor a vehicle and particularly a tipper, a question which lurks in the minds people whether the vehicle was well maintained. Very often the anxiety of owners of the tippers is to make quick money. This being the situation it is possible that the tipper was not serviced properly and that the maintenance was poor.

Under these circumstance it is expedient that a proper investigation is made and that the RTO makes serious note of the problem

Our leaders are jokers. Nanthoor junction and KPT junction are real death traps. Both these junctions should have a flyover or something suitable to avoid such incidents. The Kulshekar flyover was not needed and a waste, and chance for someone to fill their pockets. There are no signals at all major junctions except Lalbagh. The one way in Bendore was a blessing and because of some pressure from some businessmen the one way was removed. Please save the citizens of M'lore. Condolences to the family members of the people killed .

Why the police & MCC are shy of installing traffic signal ? the only signal in Mangalore opp MCC is working so well.. are we going back to stone age ? In many junctions lights are installed but not functional? Careless driving and no enforcement drive against erring drivers is the main cause.. but who is bothered except those family members of the innocent victims ?

How come the break fails of heavy duty vehicles, tipper etc. Is nt is mandatory or should make mandatory that these commercial vehicles are checked every year for Breaks/Tyres etc. How many innocent lives / families becoming orphans we want to see loosing. How long this chalta hai attitude will go on.

Main reason behind these kind of accident is easy access to driving license..
Look at the condition of the car, dnot we have certain safety measures for the car manufacturers. ..???
primary safety feature like Airbags missing from indian cars...it's really unfortunate..Concerned department should not compromise with safety features for god sake...

Horrible and shocking news of serial accident at Nanthoor junction.Looking at the impact of accident on Alto car, nobody could have been survived. How ghastly it could have been?Unbelievable.Pray to Almighty God to grant eternal peace to the deceased soul and speedy recovery of injured.Heartfelt condolence to the family members of deceased.Nanthoor junction is definitely an accident prone junction always. But our elected representatives, local administration etc are still under deep slumber.I don't know when they will get up from their sleep? need of the hour is to build one fly over on emergency basis. This is very much needed not only in Nanthoor junction but also in some other parts of the city, where traffic is uncontrollable.Hope the concerned department, authorities look into the matter on priority basis and take an initiative to construct one fly over in order to avoid future accidents of this type.

One more thing what i have noticed is New Signals installed without police and Security cams and still these bus people have not yet learnt driving ( Idiots ) !!!!

The junction seems to be dangerous. it may not be the break fail rather over speed. please install speed breakers and use some strict traffic rules like fine for over speed, rash driving, those who do not follow traffic rules, dipper lights in the night. strict measures can prevent these kinds of mishaps and save the innocent lives. But can this happen in India, in Mangaluru.

Looking at the condition of the alto car it is very hard to believe the number of survivors. God must have only saved them. There should be some other mechanism in vehicles of this nature to stop during such emergency, like hand break. Pray those who are serious will recover fully very soon.

Nanthoor Junction is a real death trap! I'm a daily user of this stretch. I would like to make 3 observations: 1. A junction of such traffic volume shouldn't have such a gradient 2. Just look at the Car. Is it designed with human safety in mind? 3. This junction needs either a flyover or signal Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
