Exactly. Earlier a household used to have 8-10 children, at-least one would have looked after their old parents. Now, two or just one. They go away after marrying or in search of job. How can we call them to stay with us or go to Europe or US/Gulf countries to be with them ?

Its time we prepare ourselves mentally to be in the company of people of our age/mentality than curtailing our children's future or being a burden.

    It is very sad indeed.

    R.I.P.

These days there are many paid care takers (old age homes). If someone is having own property and knew that there is no one to take care, should dispose of the property and stay at some alternative place.

It is indeed a sad episode in the life and history of Louisa Pereira. This should serve as a lesson to other seniors who should take adequate care of themselves particularly when they are by themselves.

    Joe,

Do you know that there is another kind of parents, who refuse to be with son/daughter's family ? That is because they are not let to do the ruling. This is the reality you will not believe.

As you said, hope the news about this lady spreads around and such seniors do get some sense drilled into their aging brains.

@ Lydia, ageing is not a choice of any of us.
On your point on stubborn parents, it is the duty of the son to make the family happy with aging parents and spouse as parents did this exercise when the son was very young.Convince and make your aged parents to accept the need of each and every member of the family with love. This is what Jesus Christ taught us. Dont destitute your parents just because they are bit stubborn.

    Rudolf,

Jesus Christ also said that when a man marries, he shall leave/live with his wife though the commandments say that parents must be respected. Both the teachings teach respect and responsibility - not to be adamant to rule the household till death.

Earlier days man was working, wife was at home cooking and looking after the children. Today, if both don't work they can afford to feed all members of the family. While the wife works, she will have a say about how family matters should be handled ? If that makes the man his wife's slave in his parent's perspective, its not his fault but theirs.

A man giving respect to his better half who equally shares his burden will succeed in living in a happy family. As such, parents should live with their earning son/daughter and their family, not ask to hand over the pay-envelope and do the ruling !

Sad, nobody deserves to die a lonely miserable death. May her soul rest in peace.

We may question why Ms. Pereira, at the age of 72, did not opt to stay in any of old age homes in the city so that she was cared for in her frail health. No use of any query - she is no more.

Hope she at-least made a will to donate all her belongings than her kin (who weren't there in her life) fight for inheritance after her death.
