Mangalore, Mar 8: A seminar and face-face programme with teachers and people’s representatives organised by the district unit of Karnataka State Aided Primary School Teachers’ Association was held at Scouts-Guides Bhavan here on Tuesday March 7.

Speaking after inaugurating the seminar, district in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty informed that the administration has forwarded a proposal of Rs 115 crore for the district under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) project.

Though the district has been getting only about 19 crore from the government under SSA so far, the proposal may fetch at least Rs 80-90 crore, which would benefit the education sector in the district, he said.

The Association submitted a memorandum urging the fulfilment of various demands like provision of free uniforms, text books, fee concession, free study tours, and appointment of teachers in the ratio of one teacher for every 30 students.

Shetty assured that he would meet the officials concerned to seek a solution to the problems faced by aided schools.

Among those present were MLA N Yogish Bhat, Association president Raviraj Shetty and former MLC Balakrishna Bhat.
