Mangalore, Mar 9: Keeping Manjeshwar as the headquarters, the Kerala government has decided to establish a Tulu Academy.

Manjeshwar MLA C H Kunhambu who proposed a resolution in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, urged the government to establish Tulu Academy at Manjeshwar as Kasaragod district has about 40 per cent Tulu speaking population.

“Tulu has rich literary background; It has an inspiring tradition and history also. An academy is necessary for the further development of the language. Tulu should be included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution,” he had stated.
 
Replying to this, Minister for Education and Culture M Vijaya Kumar said the government was ready to establish the academy, and the government would do all efforts to include Tulu in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.

Speaking to Deccan Herald over telephone, Mr Kunhambu said the Kerala government had given approval to the proposal. Required money will be reserved in the State budget that will be tabled on March 9, he affirmed.

Left Democratic Front (LDF) Convener P Raghavan has urged the government to reserve sufficient money for the academy. Meanwhile, ‘Tuluvere Ayano’ General Secretary Rajesh Alva and scholar Dr Venkataraja Puninchittaya have expressed their pleasure over the decision of the govermnment.
