Udupi, Mar 9: Former chief minister and Maharashtra governor S M Krishna graced the diamond jubilee celebrations of Vidyavardhaka Sangha of Shirva here on Thursday March 8.  He inaugurated the diamond jubilee library building on the occasion.

Later addressing the gathering he said that the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada has contributed immensely towards education, banking and other industries.  "I always take pride in mentioning about Dakshina Kannada wherever I go.  This district has a special place in every development activity, growth-oriented project," he opined.

Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde who laid foundation stone for the English Medium Residential School said that Dakshina Kannada district has grown not because of the support given by the government but because of the achievements and initiatives of private sector.

Former minister Amarnath Shetty, Nitte Education Trust and Vidyavardhaka Sangha president N Vinay Hegde also addressed the gathering.

Treasurer Dinesh Shetty, Dayanand Shetty, K P Shyam Shetty, vice-president K Sundar Shetty, secretary V Subbayya Hegde, Gopal Bhat were also present on the dais.

K Rajaram Shetty, correspondent of Vidyavardhaka Sangha welcomed the gathering while noted advocate Mattar Ratnakar Hegde proposed the vote of thanks.  Balasubrahmanya Rao compered the programme.
