Fiorentina lose, out of Europa League berth

Rome, April 21 (IANS): Mounir Obbadi scored in the 89th minute as Hellas Verona won 1-0 at Fiorentina in Italian football league Serie A.

Fiorentina remained sixth on Monday, one point out of the Europa League places, although the Tuscan squad can also gain a spot in Europe next season by winning the Europa League, reports Xinhua.

Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto couldn't control a shot from Lazaros Christodoupoulos and Obbadi took advantage of the rebound.

Verona goalkeeper Rafael saved a penalty from Alessandro Diamanti in the 67th minute.

Verona moved up to 14th in the standings, 13 points clear of the relegation zone.

Fiorentina drew 1-1 at Dynamo Kiev in the opening leg of the Europa League quarterfinals last week.
