Kariyappa Dadappa Divate (18), who was looking after his herd of sheep near Chikkerur road in Hirekerur taluk of Haveri district died on the spot after lightning struck him. He was from Chikkalola village in Nippani taluk of Belagavi district.

Dilleppa Shekhappa Nimbannavar (20), who too was staying with a large herd of sheep in Koda village, died due to lightning. He was from Ankasapur in Ranebennur taluk.

Sannegowda (50) from Madalapur in Hassan taluk lost his life due to lightning.

After an electric pole fell to ground due to heavy wind in Maddur town in Madya district, a pedestrian named Shashikala suffered serious injuries.

Heavy rain was also reported from Mandya district and Periyapatna taluk of Mysuru district. Several roofs were blown away, and tobacco barrens crashed to the ground.  Many walls collapsed and trees fell in these places.

The meteorological department has predicted double the rainfall during May in the state as compared to April. Southern and coastal areas of the state will be the most hard-hit. Some of these places will experience hailstorms because of low pressure areas which will be created in these regions, predicted director in the department, Sundar Metri.
